Position summary

We are currently recruiting for a Research Assistant to help complete a geospatial model to aid in Irish offshore wind farm developments. This model will be finalised over the next year and will streamline and de-risk future developments.

The candidate will work with a diverse team of researchers to merge multifaceted spatial data and help assess the model and its outputs in a GIS environment. They will also help manage a large dataset developed by a team of researchers and assist in authoring internal reports and manuscripts for publication. This position is also a unique coordination between two Science Foundation Ireland programmes: iCRAG (providing funding) and MaREI (providing work environment and supervision); thus, this opportunity could serve as a bridge between these programmes and opportunities for further original research may become available.

Project background: EirWind is a MaREI Centre’s industry-led collaborative research project, co-designing the opportunity around the sustainable development of Ireland’s marine resources, using offshore wind as the catalyst for innovation and impact. It has been funded by the industry partners and Science Foundation Ireland, with this post funded through MaREI’s sister centre iCRAG (Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences). The project utilises the concepts of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) where relevant, including interactive use of advanced data-analysis, strategic planning, Irish marine and renewable energy policy initiatives and stakeholder management. More information available at: https://www.marei.ie/eirwind/.
