OFFER DESCRIPTION
At the institute of Theoretical Physics II: Soft Matter in the faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf a
Doctoral Student in Active Matter
(100 %, pay grade 13 TV-L)
is to be occupied from March 2020. The employment is initially limited for a period of 36 months. It is a qualification position in the sense of the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (Wissenschaftsvertragsgesetz´- WissZeitVG), which is to promote the scientific qualification of the employee.
The proposed project deals with modelling, statistical theory and simulation of active particles in disordered and responsive environments. Strong interactions and exchange visits with the other EU network partners (for example with the experimental group of C. Bechinger, Konstanz) are part of the project. As member of ITN, the student will also have access to a broad range of academic and transferrable skills programs. The host institution offers world-class research facilities in a diverse and stimulating environment.
We are seeking motivated and talented students with a background in theoretical physics. Prior experience with soft matter and statistical physics is a plus. The networking language of the group is English. We foster diversity and encourage applications from students of all backgrounds. The admission of the ESR as a doctoral student will follow the standard admission rules of HHU Düsseldorf.
In order to be approved for MSCA financing, the applicant, at the time of application, should have not resided in Germany for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Moreover, the applicant must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not have been awarded a doctoral degree.
The pay scale grouping will be, depending on the personal qualification of the applicant, up to pay grade 13 TV-L.
In principle, the employment can also take place part-time, if no compelling official reasons are opposed in an individual case.
Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf aims at increasing the percentage of employed women. Applications from women will therefore be given preference in cases of equal aptitude, ability and professional achievements unless there are exceptional reasons for choosing another applicant. Applications from suitably qualified severely disabled persons or disabled persons regarded as being of equal status according to Book IX of the German Social Code (SGB – Soziales Gesetzbuch) are encouraged.
Your contact person in case of questions is Prof. Hartmut Löwen; email: hlowen@hhu.de (no applications).
Please submit your application documents (letter of motivation, CV, diplomas and contact details of 2 referees) citing reference number 146T19-3.1 until 03.12.2019 by email (one PDF file) to:
