About the position
The Institute of Marine Research (IMR) invites applications for a two-year full-time appointment as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on Atlantic cod movement ecology. The position may be prolonged for maximum two more years, depending on funding.
The position is located at the Flødevigen Research Station, Arendal, Norway. The preferred start date is December 2019, although this is negotiable.
The applicant is expected to work on the project “CodSize – resolving impacts of Atlantic cod body size on population replenishment and coastal ecosystem change”, funded by the Research Council of Norway. Relying largely on existing data from ongoing telemetry research projects within a no-take marine reserve, we aim to resolve the role of individual characteristics, body size in particular, for cod spawning behaviour and feeding behaviour. The project also aims to link movement data with genetic information about parentage and population structure, as well as stable isotope samples for identifying trophic interactions and modelling of ecosystem change.
Primarily, the successful candidate should hold a PhD or be able to document a confirmed date for the dissertation/defence. Applicants with a PhD in movement ecology and documented skills in statistical analyses of behavioural data, for instance using the R software, will be preferred.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow is also expected to engage with the research group and contribute to an active research environment with opportunities for personal and professional development. The appointee must have the ability to work in a goal-oriented, organised, focused and independent manner. Candidate assessment will emphasise doctoral work, examination results as well as previous research (published papers) and development work. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised.
The Norwegian public service is committed to reflect the diversity of society and the personnel policy of the Institute of Marine Research aims to achieve a balanced workforce. All qualified persons are therefore encouraged to apply for the position irrespective of cultural background, gender, age or disability.
Short-listed applicants will be invited for interviews and with permission from the applicant the Institute of Marine Research will also conduct a reference check before appointment.
The position is remunerated in the State salary plan for Post-doctoral Research Fellow, code 1352, salary grade 59-66 (NOK 523.200-594.200). A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.

- Complete list of scientific publications
- Doctoral dissertation or link
- A maximum of ten (10) publications that the applicant wishes to include for assessment
