PROTON is an international training network (ITN) in the frame of Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA). 10 academic and 2 industrial partners joint to train 15 PhD students in the field of proton transport and proton coupled transport. The research projects of the PhD students aim at clarifying the molecular reaction mechanisms of protons in the confines of interfacial water layers and proteinaceous cavities with emphasis on proton mobility.
You are eligible to apply if you are: (i) in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of your research career; (ii) have not resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. iii) are competent in written and spoken English.
Intana Bioscience GmbH (Planegg, Germany) offers a position for a PhD student to work on assay development and inhibitor screening using FCCS methods for proton transporters. The student will also have two secondments at the University of Kiel and Linz for several months. The PhD will be granted in coordination with Prof. Eric Beitz at the University of Kiel.
We are looking for students holding or very close to completing their Masterdegree in Biology, (Bio)Technology, (Bio)Physics, (Bio)Chemistry or Optics with the following qualities: i) exceptional academic performance, including qualifications, prizes; ii) subject specific skills and expertise iii) mobility, high interest and motivation, communication, presentation skills and team working abilities.
We are offering a full time position for three years. The gross salary per month amounts to 3.171,90€ incl. taxes and social security / employer’s contribution. In addition the ESR will be paid a monthly mobility allowance (600€) and - if applicable - a family allowance (500€).
The earliest starting date is 1st October 2019.

REQUIRED LANGUAGESENGLISH: Excellent
- Applicants must, at the date of recruitment by
PROTON, be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research
experience measured from the date when the researcher obtained the
degree entitling him/her to embark on a doctorate) of their research
- They should not have been awarded a doctoral degree.
- Applicants must not have resided or carried out their
main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting
institution for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before
the recruitment date. This excludes short stays such as holidays or
compulsory national service.
- We look for students with exceptional academic
performance holding or very close to completing their Master degree in
Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry or closely related
- Knowledge of the English language is essential.
- Knowledge of light microscopic and spectroscopic
techniques (e.g. confocal microscopy, fluorescence correlation
spectroscopy, single dye tracing)
- Experience in handling fluorescent molecules,
- Publications in international journals/attendance of international conferences .
- Cloning, protein expression, cell culture
- Protein purification and membrane reconstitution
- Ability to use programming languages for data acquisition
- Soft skills: presentation skill, team working ability
For all the above, knowledge is proven by publications, certificates, master thesis or equivalent documentation. Skills should be
acknowledged in reference letters and demonstrated during the interview (presentation skills). During the interview each applicants presents
his/her master thesis.
