The Dean of the Faculty of Letters of Wroclaw University

invites applications in the competition

for the position of assistant (asystent) in the Department of Literary Theory in the Institute of Polish Studies of Wrocław University.


To be eligible applicants have to meet the terms and conditions stipulated in the Polish Higher Education Act of July 20 2018 (Journal of Laws 2018, item 1668).

The start date for the position is October 1 2018 .

I. A successful candidate has to meet the following conditions:

  1. hold a master’s degree in Polish (MA thesis in literary studies);
  2. demonstrate a research record in literary studies and literary criticism validated by publications and papers read at literary studies conferences;
  3. hold experience in teaching courses in literary theory area in a university level higher education institution;
  4. hold experience in editing issues of scholarly journals or proceedings;
  5. demonstrate a track record of participating in research project;
  6. demonstrate fluency in English and speak another western European language;
  7. the search committee will also consider the following additional criteria related to the needs of the Institute of Polish Studies and the research profile of the Department of Literary Theory: research based on new methodologies in humanities and experience in their application in teaching; research and organizational experience in international cooperation; experience in translating scholarly texts; experience in teaching classes in English.


  1. A successful application has to contain:
  1. cover letter addressed to the Rector of Wrocław University;
  2. CV;
  3. personal data questionnaire;
  4. overview of the applicant’s research and teaching record and other organizational experience;
  5. list of publications;
  6. at least one review of the applicant’s research, teaching and organizational record submitted by a scholar who holds a post-doctoral degree (doctor habilitatus) or state professor degree in a field inclusive of or related to the research interest area of the applicant;
  7. copy of the doctoral diploma;
  8. an original set of lesson plans for 30 hours of classes in an open class format for graduate students of Polish studies utilizing new methodologies in humanities ;
  9. declaration stating that if selected, the successful applicant will designate Wrocław University as his / her primary place of employment;
  10. any other documents supporting the application.


All documents have to be signed by the applicant


Document submission:


The documents are to be submitted by 12.00 a.m. on September 4 2018 to the administrative office of Instytut Filologii Polskiej Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego, pl. Nankiera 15b, pok. 111.

The competition is to be decided on September 16 2019*.

* The Dean reserves the right to void the competition without stating the reason.


The cover letter must contain the following clause: “I do consent to processing the personal data provided in my application for the purpose of organizing, conducting and publishing the results of the search procedure. I am aware that Wrocław University, pl. Uniwersytecki 1, 50-137 Wrocław is my personal data administrator. I realize that providing my personal data is voluntary but necessary to accomplish the goal for which it has been gathered” (in accordance with the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act of May 10 2018, Journal of Laws 2018, No. 1000).
