Applying geological constraints to geophysical models
The PACIFIC consortium, led by University Grenoble Alpes, is developing new tools for exploring mineral deposits beneath the surface with high-accuracy, low-cost and low-environmental impact, based on the "traditional" passive seismic method. The PACIFIC consortium brings together mineral exploration and mining industry, technology and service-providing SMEs, academic and research institutes and geological surveys. The PACIFIC project will thereby transfer the fruits of cutting-edge scientific research to industry and launch the development and deployment of new mineral exploration methods.
The PACIFIC project opens a post-doctoral position: the aim of the postdoc is to apply geological constraints (lithology, structure, borehole data, etc) to help interpret geophysical models of ore deposits. The postdoc project would focus on interpreting the results obtained from ambient noise seismic surveys conducted at the Marathon PGE-Cu deposit in Ontario Canada and the Kallak iron deposit in Sweden.
We are looking for a geology graduate who has conducted doctorate-level research on ore deposits, preferably with some experience in the mineral exploration sector, some familiarity with geological modelling using Leapfrog or a similar program, and some knowledge of geophysical techniques. The University Grenoble Alpes would host the postdoc, with some time spent at the Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies.
