Offer Description
This project aims at studying the textual tradition of 1 Enoch, and more specifically of the Book of Watchers (the first part of the current Ethiopic 1 Enoch: chapters 1-36), in its multifaceted transmission (mainly in Aramaic, Greek and Ethiopic). The aim of the project is to carry out a concordance of the Aramaic (Qumran fragments), Greek (versions from the Gizeh Papyrus and George Syncellus) and Ethiopic texts of the Book of Watchers. Such an analysis will cast light on the multifaceted re-propoisitions of some of the traditions that converged in the Ethiopic 1 Enoch between Second Temple Judaism and late-antique Christianities along two lines: the longue durée approach and the definition of intellectual and/or scribal networks between Judaism(s) and Christianity(-ies) in the context of the Roman Empire
