Open position for a PhD student in the Precision Agriculture research field. The final resolution is conditioned to a competitive selection process performed at the hosting institution (University of Lleida). If the outocome of the selection is positive for the candidate, the envisaged starting date will be approx. 1.12.2019.
The topic of this proposal is related to "Fruit yield estimation combining photon-based sensors, computer vision and sampling schemes adapted to spatially variable scenarios". The idea is to use photon-based sensors (RGB cameras, photogrammetry, LIDAR, RGB-D sensors) to detect fruits and, combining it with improved sampling techniques, make reliable yield estimates for the farmer. Initially, the research will be focused on apple orchards, where preliminary works have already been performed. Computer vision and machine learning techniques are needed to properly process and interpret field data. In a second stage, sampling methods making use of remote sensing will be applied to develop friendly yield estimation models adapted to spatially variable fruit orchards.
- One year full time contract, renewable up to three years.
- Gross Salary (per year): 14.700 € (first year) - 16.000 € (second and third year)

Although not decisive, knowledge in computer vision, machine learning, data processing, spatial data analysis and GIS software will be valued.
