Project: “Design and implementation of sustainable multiproductive systems in truffle culture and analysis of the associated ecosystem services”

Concept and approach of the project

The thesis will focus on studying the fungal communities inhabiting the “brulés” (areas with scarce vegetation surrounding the trees and influenced by truffle growth), their role in truffle development, and the possibilities of management of the local micro and macrobiota to improve the ecosystem services provided.

General objectives of the project.

Three main objectives are considered: i) to study the fungal diversity associated to truffle production systems, ii) selective knowledge-based management of microorganisms to improve the persistence of Tuber melanosporum in the soil, and iii) a joint assessment of the ecosystem services provided by truffle culture practices, including productivity, ecosystem regulation, environmental protection and socio-cultural services.
