OFFER STARTING DATE01/09/2019
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a Ph.D. student position in tissue remodeling research in the group of Andreas Ramming and Jörg Distler at the University Hospital of Erlangen.
Our major goals are to identify novel targets/treatment strategies in fibrotic diseases. Despite the great medical need, effective anti-fibrotic therapies are not yet available. Fibrosis may occur after defined noxious stimuli, but in many cases no initiating trigger can be identified. The pathological feature of fibrosis is an excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix that disrupts the physiological architecture of the affected tissue. The project includes the investigation of potential new mechanism in the pathogenesis of fibrosis and potential new treatment strategies. In particular we will focus on endothelial cell damage and fibroblast interactions.
The PhD student will be enrolled at the life@FAU graduate school providing supervision by a mentoring committe and the opportunity to participate in soft-skill seminars.
Beside an international and innovative team of researchers, we provide excellent resources including a fully-equipped laboratory for conducting experiments to analyze matrix immunology. Cutting edge technology is available, like light sheet microscopy, quantitative genomics and epigenomics or mass cytometry (CyTOF). Bioinformatic support is provided in the group.
We offer travel support for conferences, and and an excellent international research network.
