The PACIFIC project opens a post-doctoral position to develop the new multi-array passive seismic imaging technique for mineral exploration: Noise-based, passive seismic imaging requires the processing of very large volumes of data (typically tens of tera- bytes). In this method, a surface array is used in conjunction by vertical arrays installed in deep exploration holes. The advantages of using vertical arrays are that interference from surface waves and the complications from poorly consolidated surface layers are avoided. This makes the extraction and use of body-waves much easier. The development of a new method as passive reflection seismic will require developing efficient codes and procedures for High Performance Computing (HPC) of the subsequent data. PACIFIC will in particular develop optimized codes for seismic array processing that will be necessary in order to separate body- from surface-waves and further perform high-resolution imaging. The plan is to use the Kallak Fe resource site in Sweden to test the multi-array technique. This Post-doc position is under the work-package 5 for PACIFIC project.
