The work of Antonio Genovesi over the decades has always been underestimated by scholars of modern Italian literature, who have left the burden of analysis to historians and scholars of philosophy. A re-evaluation is necessary, starting from the corpus of works, of which there is a lack, except for valid initiatives, studies and editions. This is also the case with a fundamental work of the literary canon, of which there is a lack of a philologically impeccable textual structure and of an accurate study. We refere to Lettere accademiche su la questione se sieno più felici gl’ignoranti che gli scienziati, who were published for the first time in Naples in 1764, against the background of the plague and famine that struck the capital of the Kingdom in 1763-1764.
