Doctoral Student in Active Matter (100%)
The proposed project deals with the fabrication of asymmetric colloidal particles in the micron and sub-micron range using a series of techniques available in the host group and with their activation using diverse propulsion strategies (catalytic reactions, electromagnetic fields, etc.). The student will be engaged in characterizing properties from the single-particle level to collective ones via quantitative microscopy and image analysis. Strong interactions and exchange visits with the other EU network partners are part of the project. As member of the ITN, the student will also have access to a broad range of academic and transferrable skills programs. The host institution offers world-class research facilities in a diverse and stimulating environment.

We are seeking motivated and talented students with a background in physics, physical chemistry, materials science and related disciplines. Prior experience with optical microscopy and particle tracking is a plus. The working language of the group is English. We foster diversity and encourage applications from students of all backgrounds. The admission of the ESR as a doctoral student will follow the standard admission rules of ETH Zurich.

In order to be approved for MSCA financing, the applicant, at the time of application, should have not resided in Switzerland for more than 12 moths in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Moreover, the applicant must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not have been awarded a doctoral degree.
