The Metabolism and Nutrition Research Group, LDRI, Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), Belgium, is looking for a Postdoctoral fellow to join the team of Prof Laure Bindels. The candidate will investigate the mechanisms by which cancer cells can communicate with the adipose tissue, leading potentially to cancer progression and metastases, as well as fat mass loss. The candidate will also consider how the gut microbiota can interfere with this crosstalk. This project will involve in vitro and in vivo experiments, with metabolomics and transcriptomics analyses. This project is part of a research concert action involving 5 research teams with complementary expertise and benefitting from seed funds from the UCLouvain.
The candidate will benefit from a one-year full time contract with a gross income of maximum 2.865,-€ per month, depending of the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experiment. The contract will start between May 1 and October 1, 2020, and may be extended up to 30 months, depending on performance. The candidate will be encouraged to apply for his/her own fellowship.
Founded in 1425, the UCLouvain is a research-oriented, multi-site university that hosts several research institutes and technology platforms, is open to the world (with > 40% of international researchers) and occupies the first place among universities of the Belgian French-speaking community (http://www.uclouvain.be). The candidate will join a young and dynamic team with currently 4 PhD students, within a well-established research group of 32 people. If needed, the candidate will be trained for -omics data analyses (metabolomics, transcriptomics).
The candidate is considered in international mobility, i.e. she/he has not resided, studied or worked in Belgium for more than 24 months over the past 3 years before the start of the post-doc.
The candidate obtained his/her PhD less than 3 years ago.

REQUIRED LANGUAGESENGLISH: Good
The candidate holds a PhD in Biological/Medical Sciences, Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent for less than 3 years, with a trackable experience in mouse experimentation and strong knowledge in energy metabolism (ideally adipose tissue biology). Experience with -omics data analyses and/or primary cell culture, as well as knowledge in R and biostatistics, will be considered as a plus.
The candidate is highly motivated, quality-oriented and has a strong interest for metabolic disorders and system biology approaches. A good command of English (spoken and written), excellent communication skills, and ability to perform and analyze experiments independently as well as in a team, are necessary.
