SAE- 9 Research Assistant – Biophotonics, IPIC
Contract: Full Time / Fixed Term
Biophotonics@Tyndall was established two years ago as a collaborative research programme based at the Tyndall National Institute led by Professor Stefan Andersson-Engels. The Group’s focus will be to form close collaborations with clinicians, research centres and companies to accelerate biophotonics technology and rapidly deliver breakthrough technologies into the hands of health-care providers. Using photonics as a driver for the faster development and deployment of more accurate, less invasive diagnostic and treatment methods for cancer and other diseases. The new programme has been formed by the Tyndall National Institute, the Irish Photonic Integration Centre (IPIC) and University College Cork, under a €5M award from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) professorship award.
- Work under the direction of the Biophotonics team leaders and postdocs.
- Contribute to the clinical testing of the research projects.
- Contribute to and support general lab experiments.
- Carryout various lab duties as required by lab managers.
- Contribute to the report writing for project updates.
- Contribute to the publication of the project outcomes.
- To carry out administrative work to support the programme of research.
- Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities as required.
- Ensure all activities are compliant with Tyndall Quality management system.
- Ensure all activities are compliant with the required health and safety standards.
- Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required with the general scope and level of the position.
- Perform other related duties as directed and as necessary for the work of the Biophotonics team.
- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Biomedical engineering, Electrical or Electronics engineering, Physics, or other relevant field
- A good grasp pf optics and biophotonics fundamentals
- Fluent command of English is required
- Experience in photonics and/or optoelectronics
- Strong self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative
- Excellent communication, technical and interpersonal skills
- Experience presenting the research to a technical audience
- Capability of working within a project team
- Willingness to work on a variety of projects and learn new techniques
This position is for a fixed term of one year.
This position may be appointed on the IUA Scales for Research Assistants €22,109-€34,612 depending on qualification and experience.
