General description ArthritisHeal

The ArthritisHeal project aims to train young researchers to generate novel therapeutic targets focusing on the role of pro-resolving lipids in two rheumatic diseases; osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The network is composed of 7 universities and 2 companies that will train 12 ESRs. In addition, 8 associated partners will provide secondment opportunities and training in topics such as regulatory and IP issues, presentation skills and career development. The beneficiaries combine expertise in clinical sciences, pre-clinical RA and OA models, biochemistry and data analysis. Each ESR will follow a personalized training programme covering all aspects of development of novel therapeutic targets, from discovery to validation in patients.

ESR11    Pharmacometabolomic study of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid Arthritis using MS and NMR spectroscopy (PG)

We seek a highly motivated PhD-student who will apply metabolomic methods to human rheumatoid Arthritis cohorts and animal models, to define molecular diagnostic markers associated to therapy response, as well as therapy related side effects.  The PhD-student will plan and undertake the experiments, and will report and publish the results in scientific journals and at international conferences. The student will also perform metabolites analysis in specific in vitro cell culture experiments, aiming to address resolution mechanisms (in close collaboration with Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Leiden, The Netherlands and Eberhard Karls University Tübingen (EKU), Germany. Analysis of biologically relevant sample materials will allow the student to acquire a solid knowledge in NMR and MS based metabolomics analytical chemistry, biochemistry and biology with a special focus on arthritis,

The Company and the University

PharmaGnose S.A. is a spin off company of the University of Athens supplier of R&D solutions in terms of products and services (http://pharmagnose.com/). PharmaGnose is service provider for development and validation of analytical methods using state of the art analytical techniques, profiling and fingerprinting, pharmacokinetic studies, LCMS and NMR based metabolomics in human biofluids and plant extracts supervised by Prof E, Mikros (http://biospec.pharm.uoa.gr/). The student will be enrolled in the School of Medicine National Kapodistrian University of Athens and collaborate for sample collection with the Department of Pathophysiology fully equipped with cell culture, molecular biology, histology, flow cytometry and autoantibodies analysis facilities, and of a 45-bed clinic as well as daily and outpatient clinics, under the guidance of professor A. Tzioufas.
