Offer Description
We are looking for a Postdoc to discover the molecular mechanisms of Wolbachia-conferred antiviral protection. The project involves characterisation of protection at the level of individual Drosophila tissues and then determining the function of Wolbachia genes putatively involved in protection. He/She will be working closely with a PhD student on discerning the transcriptional profiles of different tissues, cell lines and molecular biology.
The employed person will join a newly created team whose goal will be to discover the molecular mechanisms of interaction between the intracellular Wolbachia bacteria and insects. He/She will focus on implementing molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, western blot), fluorescence microscopy techniques, generating and analyzing NGS data, and helping PhD students. Experience working with insects and cell cultures would be appreciated.
This position will be funded by the European Research Council via dr Ewa Chrostek
