Offer Description
Museum natural-history collections are important source of biological data, useful for different biodiversity assessment and conservation plans. The morphological approaches should be completed with genetic analyses, to achieve species determination. This is suitable for invertebrates which show a high complexity of diversity, complicated by the presence similar, sibling or cryptic species. This project stems from a collaboration with the Natural History Museum of Bergamo and focuses on a Trichoptera species group, Potamophylax cingulatus, for which the taxonomic definition of species and sub-species is still an open question. The proposed objectives are:
1) To set up a laboratory protocol to obtain DNA of a good quality from the museum samples.
2) To obtain and deposeited the COI sequences for the Potamophylax collection samples, in Genbank and BOLD database as a reference for the barcoding.
3) To define the phylogeny and distribution of the Italian Potamophylax taxa
