OFFER DESCRIPTION

The DIGIMAN4.0 (DIGItal MANufacturing Technologies for Zero-defect Industry 4.0 Production) Project aims, within the framework of the MSCA-ITN-2018 initiative, at the provision of world excellent research training to 15 ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) in the field of digital manufacturing technologies for Industry 4.0.

This research training will focus on three main aspects:

  1. Innovative technological solutions for high quality, high throughput and high precision production
  2. Cutting edge multi-disciplinary training in different domains and
  3. Validation of different digital manufacturing technologies by integration into process chains for the production of advanced components in several sectors.

When it comes to complex products, producers are confronted with high quality requirements (tolerances of less than 5 μm). Industry 4.0 enabled quality control cycles can help to cope with technological immanent process deviations. Thus, for example smart sensors and track and trace systems are needed to measure quality inline and adapt processes individually based on the given product data.

The ESR will develop innovative, data-driven methods of quality control cycles enabled by industry 4.0 measures together with partners from science and industry. Semi-automated decision support systems are just as important as data analysis (big data and machine Learning).

The practical relevance of the work is guaranteed by diverse industrial contacts, especially Bosch and ITK Engineering. Within the scope of working at the institute, the ESR will participate in a Doctoral programme and will be given the opportunity of receiving a doctoral degree by the Karlsruhe Institute of technology doctorate. Furthermore, the ESR will have the opportunity to spend several weeks abroad, e.g. in the USA and China. We support the ESR’s professional and personal development with excellent support measures.

Benefits

This full-time post will be available from October 2020 and is offered on a fixed-term 36 month contract. The post benefits from a highly competitive and attractive salary, plus mobility and family allowances as applicable.

 

Eligibility criteria

At the time of recruitment, the researcher (ESR) must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment under the project. Eligible candidates must be, at the time of the recruitment, in the first four years of their research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
