Novasep is a leading international provider of services for the Life Science industry, based on specialized technologies. The Group is recognized for its expertise in the field of molecule production and purification. Its site of Pompey is a R&D, process development, scale-up, engineering and manufacturing center. This site has developed our latest generations of equipments for biopharmaceuticals.

CODOBIO – Continuous Downstream Processing of Biologics - is a recently granted Marie Skłodowska Curie European Training Network. CODOBIO is implemented by a European Consortium of universities, research institutions and companies in the field of bioprocess engineering. Main objectives of CODOBIO are (i) process control and modelling of continuous downstream processes, (ii) miniaturization, scale-up and –down of continuous downstream processes and (iii) process design and development of integrated continuous downstream processes.

Starting with May 1, 2019, Novasep offers in Pompey (France) a

PhD position in Bioprocess Engineering

Project description

Quality of product in batch and continuous donwstream : chromatography and purifications using filtration

  • Comparison if protein (recombinant antibody) purified by batch or integrated continuous downstream processing has the same quality profile (critical quality attributes) starting from the same culture supernatant.
  • The aim is to compare purity (host cell protein, host cell DNA, aggregates), isoform composition, glycoforms, potency (binding to FcgIII, FcRn), and yield.
  • Development of a laboratory scale prototype and protocols for novel chromatography processes and purifications including filtration (for example counter-current diafiltration process).
  • Integration of capture chromatography with polishing and purification using diafiltration and filtration.
  • Economic evaluation of the integrated process and calculation of the buffer consumption in comparison to batchwise downstream processing.
