The CLEOPATRA ITN, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network led by the L3S Research Center at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover, aims to make sense of the massive digital content coverage generated by the intense disruption in Europe over the past decade – including appalling terrorist incidents and the dramatic movement of refugees and economic migrants.
The CLEOPATRA ITN offers a unique interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral research and training programme, which will explore how we can begin to analyse and understand the major events that influence and shape our lives and our societies. It will facilitate advanced cross-lingual processing of textual and visual information related to key contemporary events at scale, and will develop innovative methods for efficient and intuitive user access to and interaction with multilingual information. You can find more infromation about CLEOPATRA ITN here: http://cleopatra-project.eu/.
The research topics addressed at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are related to the multilingual NLP processing, especially for under-resourced languages.
We are looking for two highly motivated Marie Curie Fellows to join FFZG team in CLEOPATRA ITN. The candidates should have a strong computer science or computational linguistics background. The ideal candidate will have solid programming skills in some high-level programming language (e.g. Python) a good knowledge of machine learning principles, and some experience with at least one of the available NLP toolkits.
Fluent written and spoken English is required. Advantage is given to the candidates with knowledge of Croatian to easier follow the PhD lectures.
Candidates applying for the PhD Studentship must hold Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and the recruited candidate is expected to enrol as a PhD student at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Postgraduate School (Postgraduate School of Linguistics: 1 candidate, Postgraduate School of Information and Communication Sciences: 1 candidate).
At the time of recruitment by the host organization, applicants shall be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. Full-Time Equivalent Research Experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree that would formally entitle him/her to embark on a doctorate.
H2020 MSCA Mobility Rule: at the time of recruitment by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Croatia) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date.
