UiT The Arctic University of Norway has established «The Arctic MSCA-IF program» (uit.no/afu/arcticmsca) to recruit excellent young researchers planning to apply for a Marie Skƚodowska-Curie individual fellowship (MSCA-IF) to pursue a career in research. We invite applications from promising young researchers within the field of Cancer Epidemiology. The selected candidate will write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-IF at UiT together with Dr. Kristin Benjaminsen Borch. This is an opportunity to accelerate your research career while living in the urban research city of Tromsø, uniquely located at the top of the world surrounded by some of Europe’s last pristine wild nature.

This call is one of 21 from pre-selected supervisors at UiT The Arctic University of Norway through the “Arctic MSCA-IF program” (uit.no/afu/arcticmsca/supervisors). Successful postdoc candidates will be invited to Tromsø (travel and accommodation expenses covered) for a three-day MSCA-IF symposium May 13-15, 2019. At this event, the candidates will present their past research achievements, discuss future plans with their potential supervisor and learn how to write a successful MSCA-IF application. Together with the supervisor, the selected candidates will start to write their MSCA-IF application with deadline September 11th 2019.

In this call we search for talented, young researchers within the field of Cancer Epidemiology as presented by Dr. Borch:

The number of people living after a cancer diagnosis have increased tremendously due to early detection and improved treatment. Nevertheless, modifiable lifestyle factors as physical activity, diet, anthropometry, and smoking- and alcohol habits may further affect the prognosis in cancer reducing the risk of recurrence and increase survival of cancer. Healthy behaviour can help control side effects and comorbidities improving quality of life and general health. Lack of physical activity, increasing body weight, high alcohol consumption and continued smoking in the adult population is a major concern for public health and to life after disease. Thus, identifying modifiable risk factors in survival of cancer is an important goal in secondary prevention of cancer. However, few studies have investigated the association between repeated measurements of lifestyle factors on individual level during follow-up and survival of cancer. In our large nationally representative prospective cohort of Norwegian women (the NOWAC Study), we have a unique possibility to investigate cancer survival in the sub cohort “Living with Cancer – the NOWAC study”. The main aim of this project is to describe and identify risk factors and preventive factors for longevity after cancer and investigate the impact of changing lifestyle after cancer diagnosis across socioeconomic status. Additional aims include comparison of changes in lifestyle factors between women diagnosed with cancer and cancer-free women.
