African Studies is a discipline which deals with research on and description of African societies, especially their history, languages and literatures, as well as the African diaspora.
The Department of African Studies offers a 50% employment as post doc assistant in the segment of "African history and societies".
Primary task is the development of the segment of "pre-colonial African history" (with focus Northeast Africa/Sudan/Ethiopia), collaboration in the digitalization of the photographic collection as well as the edition of the publication series.
Applicants should also work on a habilitation project which is settled within historical and/or archaeological research concerning Northeast Africa. Teaching in the Bachelor and Mastercurriculum is expected.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves
- Developing and strengthening the independent research profile
- Involvement in research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Preparing / writing a habilitation thesis
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
