Within the project PRIN 2015 “PROTEUS. An interpretative database of the Greek and Roman mythical lore", this research aims at reading the mythical traditions attested in ancient Roman theatre, and particularly in Plautus, within an antropological frame, that is analysing them after structural themes concerning the individual (life, death, health, social roles, beauty, etc.) or the community (hero, war, gods, prayer, etc.). The project intend to overturn the traditional perspective adopted in mythological repertoirs and focus rather on the intellectual and behavioural models underlying the mythical elements of Roman plays, so as to achieve a better understanding of their significance for the culture who produced them (the director and his public) and also of their reception.
