MARIE CURIE GRANT AGREEMENT NUMBER813239
RNAct is a EU-MSCA ITN project with as research aim the design of novel RNA recognition motif (RRM) proteins for exploitation in synthetic biology and bio-analytics. This is achieved through a design cycle that starts with computational approaches at the sequence and structure levels of proteins and RNA, in order to select amino acid positions and mutations for large-scale phage display experiments with RNA screening. Viable RRMs will be further investigated at the atomic level with integrative structural biology approaches, and will be applied in synthetic biology, to post-transcriptionally regulate fatty acid processing via RRMs, and in bio-analytics, to detect RNA in-cell and design RNA biochips.
We are now hiring 10 Ph.D. students (or "early stage researchers", ESRs)) for this project!
The benefits for these positions depend on local conditions, please see the specific position information via http://rnact.eu/
You can only apply for positions in countries where you have not resided for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
You must be in the first four years of your research career (as measured in full-time equivalents).
ESR recruitment and selection is a joint responsibility of the RNAct participants. A first selection round will take place immediately after closure of the vacancies. All supervisors and co-supervisors will be involved in this process. A detailed list of selection criteria will be defined that contains aspects such as qualifications and grades of the candidate, consistency of the application text, proficiency in English and gender and geographical balance. Furthermore, care will be taken that all expertise and disciplines relevant for the ESR positions in the RNAct project are covered to the maximum extent possible. The candidates that do not pass the first selection round will receive a short feedback note, which may help them in their future job applications.
Successful candidates will be invited for an interview at the recruitment meeting. Each interview will be attended by a selection committee composed of the intended supervisors and co-supervisors. Invited candidates will be asked to give a short presentation outlining their previous work followed by a presentation on a scientific topic relevant to RNAct, which will be communicated to the candidate in the interview invitation. This will be followed by a discussion, whereby candidates will be asked questions about their motivation, expertise and the scientific topic covered in the presentation. Travel or accommodation costs will be reimbursed. A Skype interview with the same committee can be organised in lieu of the face-to-face interview if necessary. In addition to the selection criteria used in the first selection round, candidates will be evaluated on presentation and interview performance. Candidates will be ranked by each committee, including a list of reserve candidates, and will be informed of the final outcome, with feedback.
Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
Note that the deadline has been extended until the end of March.
