MARIE CURIE GRANT AGREEMENT NUMBER813596
2 PhD positions - Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher on H2020-MSCA-ITN-2018 project on Durable, Reliable and Sustainable Structures with Alkali-Activated Materials
We are excited to post 2 PhD vacancies at the Department of Materials, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb, Croatia, within the research project “DuRSAAM - PhD Training Network on Durable, Reliable and Sustainable Structures with Alkali-Activated Materials”, funded by MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS Innovative Training Network of EU HORIZON 2020 Programme.
DuRSAAM is a collaborative PhD framework creating a critical mass of experts skilled in innovative alkali-activated material (AAM) concrete, as a key enabling technology for a sustainable and resilient built environment. The consortium brings together 7 academic and 15 non-academic partners, to excel in the scientific development and exploitation of AAM concrete, advancing design, modelling and practice beyond the state-of-the-art. The network will deliver world-leading training in this multidisciplinary field through 13 PhDs in interrelated aspects of AAM concrete, fibre reinforced high-performance concrete, and textile-reinforced mortar, as well as sustainability assessment.
PhD 1 topic “Chloride ingress and corrosion of steel in AAM concrete“
The aim is to develop understanding of chloride ingress and resulting chloride-induced corrosion of steel in AAMs and propose methodology of their mitigation.
Planned academic secondments: USFD (Prof. John Provis), 3 months, joint research on corrosion of steel in AAM systems and KIT (Prof. Frank Dehn), 3 months, joint research on durability.
PhD 2 topic “Combined environmental actions
The aim is to simulate the degradation process in AAMs under combined effect of at least two environmental or mechanical actions. The simulations and experiments will consider the effect of shrinkage, freeze-thaw, carbonation and chloride transport separately and in a coupled manner, together with mechanical loading.
Planned academic secondments: TUD (Prof. Guang Ye), 6 months, focus on meso- and macro-scale modelling of AAMs.
PhD candidates applying for these positions must (at the time of recruitment) be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have a doctoral degree. Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Croatia for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date (and not have carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.).
To apply, please send
- curriculum vitae
- motivation letter
- copies of your degree and your transcripts (courses and grades)
- a one-page summary of your MSc thesis,
- two recommendation letters (or alternatively the names and email addresses of two references).
