Job statement

The “Centre of Excellence in Production Informatics and Control” (hereinafter: EPIC CoE, www.centre-epic.eu/) is a center of excellence, the establishment and the operation of which are supported by the Hungarian government and by the Teaming excellence programme within the EU Horizon 2020 Project (No: 739592). The project consortium is led by MTA SZTAKI – Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (www.sztaki.hu/en). Its members include three institutes of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft: the Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA), Stuttgart, the Institute for Production Technology (IPT), Aachen and the Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK), Berlin. Fraunhofer Austria has been included into the cooperation as well. Furthermore, two faculties of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), i.e. the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (GPK) and the Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering (KJK) are also part of the EPIC consortium resulting in the widening of the scientific and educational scope and approach pursued.

The Centre’s inherent entity, the MTA SZTAKI CoE is seeking a Research and Development Coordinator (CoE R&D Coordinator in short).

Background

By pursuing its mission, EPIC as a leading European knowledge centre of cyber-physical production systems (CCPS) develops novel methods, realizes industrial solutions, trains new generations of highly qualified professionals and works for establishing a competitive and sustainable ecosystem for tomorrow’s manufacturing.

The EPIC CoE has two fundamental, cooperating entities (pillars) yielding a solid basis for its operation. However, for the outside world, EPIC appears as a single integrated entity acting coherently and uniformly on all forums and in all its spheres of interest. The smooth and coherent cooperation of the two pillars is coordinated and headed by the CoE Director.

At the strategic level EPIC CoE is controlled by the EPIC Board, which is the highest decision making body of the Centre. The EPIC Board coordinates and monitors but does not manage the research and industrial projects.

The EPIC CoE’s two pillars are:

• MTA SZTAKI as an existing Centre of Excellence of the EU in Information Technology, Computer Science and Control whose current principal basic research profile focuses on cyber-physical systems (CPS). This pillar – called SZTAKI CoE – is to be upgraded by deepening its basic competency in fundamental research and strengthening its reputation in the applied research on the one side and by extending its scope of activity to become a CEE hub in the field on the other side.

• the new EPIC InnoLabs Ltd. (www.epicinnolabs.com/) has been recently established in Hungary as a legal entity on the basis of the former Fraunhofer-SZTAKI Project Centre for Production Management and Informatics (PMI). MTA SZTAKI has majority ownership in the company whereas the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft Germany a minority stake. As the company’s name stipulates, its main focus is to manage and facilitate the transfer of the research and innovation results to the industry through complementary developments and other value-added services.

EPIC CoE is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, and is committed to providing employment opportunities to minorities, women, disabled individuals, and other protected groups.
