1) Research on ancient civilizations in the Mediterranean, to sub-Saharan Africa and East Asia.
The research will focus on philological, historical and archaeological studies.
2) Research on written and oral Asian and African languages and literatures, from their origins
to the contemporary age representing all the disciplinary fields of the department.
3) Research on Asian and African history, institutions, thought and society in their diachronic
expressions until the contemporary age.

Eligibility criteria

Italian graduates must submit a research project, which will be discussed during an interview, and must be competent in at least one of the vehicular European languages (French, English, Spanish, Deutsch).
The committee will also assess other qualifications (publications, other research experiences, etc.), including competence in additional languages which are relevant to the project.
Foreign and expatriate applicants must also comply to the above, and in this case the interview may be carried out via telematics in English or in one of the vehicular European languages (French, English, Spanish, Deutsch).
For candidates competing on the 2 positions of the ERC-Synergy 810141 EuQu project "The European Qur'an" are:

Scholarship 1: The Latin translation of Marracci,
Scholarship 2: The translation and edition of the Qur’an by Johann Zechendorff.
