OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Medical Faculty of University of Oldenburg, Germany, and the University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands, jointly offer one PhD position in a newly established international graduate training group.

The graduate programme is a binational, interdepartmental and interdisciplinary program that aims to foster the integration of basic research, patient-oriented research, and population-based research with the long-term aim to improve health and patient outcome. PhD students will work on a three year individual research project in the fields of psychiatry, oncology, immunology or genetics and receive a broad training with courses in molecular biology, statistics, epidemiology, neuroscience, academic writing and others. The PhD Students are jointly supervised by one Principal Investigator (PI) at the University Medical Center Groningen and one PI at the Faculty of Medicine in Oldenburg. They may receive a dual PhD degree from both institutions.

The position is available from 1st of July 2018 for three years in the following project:

Project 3: Ciliopathies and intracellular signaling – unravelling the underlying mechanisms and implications for therapeutic approaches

Payment is depending on previous experience (German TV-L E13, 65 %).

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for highly motivated and team-oriented candidates who aim to qualify for an academic career, and hold an above average academic university degree (Master or equivalent) in biology, biomedical sciences or a related field. The ideal candidate shows experiences in molecular genetics, molecular biology, cell culture and/or translational research. Knowledge in the methods of molecular biology, analysis of proteins with various techniques, and culturing cells will be of advantage. Training/experience in analysis of biological pathways or interactions relevant to ciliopathies is a plus. Candidates are expected to work in an interdisciplinary, international environment and to spend half of the time in Groningen and Oldenburg. Good oral and written English skills are essential. Basic knowledge of German or Dutch will be helpful but is not necessary.
