Offer Description

VHIR offers a vacancy for a PhD position to be involved in the frame of a Horizon Europe MSCA-Doctoral Network (DN) program (Funded by EU, GA: 101168976) entitled “Autonomous Scanning Probe Microscopy for Life Sciences and Medicine powered by Artificial Intelligence (SPM4.0)”. The work will be performed at the Clinical Biochemistry, Drug Delivery& Therapy group from VHIR and consists of the Development and validation of drug-loaded nanoparticles targeting Cancer Stem Cells (CSC) for improved cancer treatment. Autonomous Scanning Probe Microscopy will be developed for label-free nanoparticles tracking and internalization in living cells.

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • Development of a PhD thesis associated to the SPM4.0 project.
  • Synthesis, characterisation, and preclinical validation of nanoparticles targeting cancer stem cells.
  • Characterisation of the system with Scanning Probe Microscopy and contribute to the creation of autonomous methods powered by artificial intelligence.
  • Analysis, writing, and presentation of results.
  • Participation in the activities of the SPM4.0 consortium, including meetings, courses, etc.
  • Administrative and laboratory management tasks.

Education and qualifications:

Required:

  • Degree and Master or equivalent in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or similar field of biosciences
  • Must not have a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment
  • Must comply with the requirements for enrolment in the PhD programme: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biomedicine, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain)


Experience and knowledge:Required:

  • Comply with the mobility rule: not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment date
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

Desired:

  • Experience in nanotechnology-based drug-delivery systems development and characterization
  • Experience in preclinical in vitro validation of drug delivery systems
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan language
  • Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date records
  • Understanding of the research process
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work and organize research within the project timetable
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong communication skills
  • Analytical skills

Additional Information

Benefits

Labour conditions:

  • Full-time position: 40h/week
  • Starting date: January 2025
  • Gross annual salary: 27.287,00 euros (Remuneration will depend on the family status at the moment of recruitment, according to the MSCA-DN regulations)
  • Contract: Predoctoral (January 2025-December 2027)
