One application is open for a Early Stage Researcher work contract position, under the project “ATHOR: Advanced THermomechanical multiscale mOdelling of Refractory linings”, with reference 764987 supported by the European Commission through Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions – Research networks (MSCA-ITN), to fulfil the position of Early Stage Researcher work contract according to the Polish current legislation on fixed-term contracts and AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków internal standards.

Work Plan: The work will be carried out within the research line/profile of “ESR12 - Influence of corrosion on thermomechanical linings behaviour” with the ATHOR Network (www.etn-athor.eu), having the following objectives and expected results:

Objectives: Define interaction between corroded microstructure and thermomechanical behaviour of refractory lining. The corroded multilayer refractory lining will be divided into representative parts with different corrosion extents (zones). The thermomechanical behaviour of corroded samples will be studied thanks conventional techniques such as refractoriness under load (RUL), creep in compression (CIC) and Hot Modulus of Rupture (HMOR), but also less conventional ones such instrumented high temperature bending test and Brazilian test. The proper zones to be investigated will selected based on macroscopic observations, microstructural investigations (SEM/EDS) and phase composition (XRD) characterizations.

Expected Results: Received information will allow to settle relationships between corrosion extent and thermomechanical properties. It will help to better understand changes in thermomechanical properties according to corrosion. Connection between corrosion and thermomechanical properties will allow to design better materials and forecast its properties during work.

PhD Supervision: The recruited Early Stage Researcher will be enrolled in a PhD Program under the Supervision of Professor Jacek Szczerba (AGH UST), Doctor Dominika Madej (AGH UST) and Doctor Ryszard Prorok (AGH UST) and under the Co-Supervision of Doctor Eric Blond (University of Orléans), and having Doctor Thomas Sayet (University of Orléans) and Doctor Thorsten Tonnesen (University of Aachen) as secondment mentors.

Legislation: The contract will be prepared according to the Polish current legislation on fixed-term contracts and AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków internal standards.

Duration: The Early Stage researcher work contract position will have a duration of 12 months, with renewal up to 36 months, starting on May 1st of 2018

 

Benefits

The recruited Early Stage Researcher will have a possibility to enroll in a PhD program according to the rule of AGH University of Science and Technology.

 

. Secondments at partner institutions (University of Orléans and University of Aachen) and attending training events of the project network are also expected.

Monthly amount: Salary (before taxes) will be in the order of 1.800,51 euros per month, corresponding to the level seven, second remuneration position, in the category of Early Stage Researcher, of the career of scientific researcher. Following MSCA-ITN regulation, a Mobility Allowance of 600 euros and a Family Allowance of 500 euros (if applicable) will also be paid.

Eligibility criteria

Early-stage researchers (ESR) are those who are, at

the time of recruitment by the host, in the first four years (full-time

equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date

when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a

doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in

the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of

whether or not a doctorate was envisaged. That means typically, for

European (or Worldwide) applicants, in the first four years after their

master degree.

 

Conditions of international mobility of researchers: Researchers

are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one

country to another) when taking up the appointment. At the time of

selection by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or

carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of

their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years

immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays,

are not taken into account.

 

English language: Network fellows (ESRs) must

demonstrate that their ability to understand and express themselves in

both written and spoken English is sufficiently high for them to derive

the full benefit from the network training.

Evaluation criteria: The candidate will be selected in two phases.

1st phase) Curricular Evaluation

2nd phase) Interview

Interviews will be carried out with the 3 applicants with the higher classification in Phase 1.

Skills/Qualifications

Master level in Materials Engineering/Chemical Technology with an excellent background in high-temperature processes of ceramics materials, thermomechanical properties and their examinations. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in English.

(a) At the time of recruitment by the AGH University of Science and Technology, the researcher must have master’s degree (full time equivalent).

(b) At the time of selection by AGH University of Science and Technology, the researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Poland for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his recruitment.
