A PhD position devoted to the developement of a protecting-free chemoselctive modification of carbohydrates is open for application at Grenoble - France. The cross-disciplinary (Chemistry/Biology/Physical-Chemistry) project spans from synthesis and physico-chemical properties of glycomimetics up to their Interactions with selected carbohydrate-binding proteins. Mainly, the PhD researcher will be in charge of optimizing access to glycomimetics through an original and straightfoward approach preventing the use of protecting groups. The PhD researcher will benefit from state-of-the-art processing and characterization platforms available within CERMAV & ICMG to develop her/his research on glycomimetics, their bioactive functions and self-assembly properties.

Benefits

The PhD position will certainly start from Ovtober 2018. The fellowship consists in a gross salary of around € 1750 per month, including a (French) health insurance and medicare package.

Eligibility criteria

Applicant should provide an e-application file combining a curriculum vitae (including average and ranking for M2 (or preliminary ranking) and M1 level), a letter of motivation and two reference letters or at least two contact supervising your previous research projects.

Selection process

1) 1st round selection: the applications will be evaluated on the basis of CV, recommendations, ranking (top tier) and average in M1 & M2 .

2) 2nd round of selection: Shortlisted candidates during 1st round selection will be invited for an interview session either in Grenoble or by video conference.

3) The most talented candidate will be submitted to the scientific board of doctoral school of Grenoble for final selection.

Skills/Qualifications

The PhD candidate should preferably hold a Master's Degree (or be about to obtain one) or equivalent in organic chemistry or supramolecular chemistry with a strong interest for biological application. Communication and writing (French or English) skills are equally important criteria. In order to be eligible for the recruitment by the doctoral school of Grenoble, strong academic credentials (top tier ranking) and scientific merit are highly recommended. The PhD candidate will defend the project before the scientific comitee @Grenoble in May or June 2018.
