Executive Director of the Central European Institute of Technology is announcing a selection procedure for the position of: Science Communications Officer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Science Communications Officer to liase with the external science and business community. This role will require the ability to research, write and edit scientific content, articles and features. As Science Communications Officer, you must have the ability to engage with scientists on a one-to-one basis by asking the right questions, listen to their response, and synthesis information in order to develop compelling narratives. You should be able to write in clear, concise and accurate language (in English) that can be understood by the general public, and appreciated by the scientific community.

Responsibilities:

  • producing articles for publication in print and online according to agreed style and keeping to strict deadlines
  • conducting interviews with scientists, academics, and students; and establishing a network of industry experts
  • attending academic and press conferences
  • reading and researching specialist media and literature, e.g. scientific papers, company reports, newspapers, magazines and journals, press releases and internet resources including social media
  • meeting with colleagues to plan the content of a document or publication
  • reviewing and amending work in response to editor/interviewee feedback
  • selecting appropriate artwork to accompany articles
  • occasionally reading page proofs from printers and checking colour proofs
  • works with internal information system
  • helps to create budgets and tracks expenditures

Requirements:

  • Academic degree (e.g., BS, MA, MSc, PhD), preferably in the physics, chemistry, biology or communication sciences;
  • Ability to understand and translate complex science into simple concepts and write about scientific research to general audiences in an engaging and accurate manner;
  • Excellent time management and communication skills;
  • Ability to build productive professional relationships with scientists;
  • MS Office proficiency;
  • Excellent command of written English; Czech useful, but not required;
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Proactive approach to work
