About BSC

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a hosting member of the PRACE European distributed supercomputing infrastructure. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 500 staff from 44 countries.

 

Context And Mission

Reporting to the BSC Technology Transfer Manager, the BSC Computer Science technology transfer officer will facilitate the exploitation of the department’s research results to society and the market.

 

Key Duties

  • Carry out the technology transfer activities defined in the department’s research projects
  • Contribute to the department’s project proposals in tech transfer aspects
  • Help to identify technology with commercial potential, protect it in the most appropriate way and maintain the Computer Science department portfolio of technologies with commercial potential
  • Help to promote and license the department’s know-how and technology through agreements with companies and the foundation of spin-offs
  • Act as an interface between researchers and companies
  • Write and participate in exploitation plans for technologies developed including the organization of market studies
  • Attend and organize, if needed meetings and teleconferences
  • Write and contribute to project deliverables
  • Manage IPR (both background and foreground) including licenses
  • Help to coordinate the industrial advisory/end users groups of the projects,
  • Participate in sustainability plans
  • Identify and engage with potential users/customers with the aim of generating interest in project results
  • Participate in project exploitation committees and follow the development of exploitable technologies

Offer Requirements

Skills/Qualifications

  • Computer Science degree or similar preferred
  • Master in innovation, IPR management or similar a plus
  • Specialized courses on IPR management, exploitation of research results etc.

Specific Requirements

  • Work experience is not essential but candidates who have knowledge of the following areas, will be at an advantage
  • Working in the context of EU-funded projects
  • Working on projects between non-profit research centers and private industry
  • Computer and Computational Sciences
  • Creating start ups
  • Protecting IP and managing IP portfolios
