Project: The role of CAR during adult neurogenesis

The significant advances in healthy care and quality of life during the last seven decades have resulted in an

increase in the incidence of age-related neurodegenerative diseases. In the brain, cell adhesion molecules

(CAMs) are involved in neurogenesis, neurite outgrowth, target recognition during synaptogenesis and in the

stability of synapses. Mutations in or impairment of CAM functionality are associated with neurologic and

psychiatric diseases. The coxsackievirus adenovirus receptor (CAR) is a type I transmembrane protein belonging

to the Ig superfamily. CAR is expressed in neurons throughout the brain, but its physiological function is poorly

characterized. We found that CAR loss of function - induced genetically or via an inflammatory response - in the

neurogenic niches is linked with perturbed neurogenesis, behaviour, LTP and synapse content. Our goal is to

better understand the role of CAR in the healthy and diseased brain, especially related to cognitive impairment.

Salary for the first year is provided by EpiGenMed (http://www.epigenmed.fr ). The initial contract is

for 1 year, and the contract is potentially renewable for 3-4 years

Eligibility criteria

PhD in neurobiology, cell biology of brain cells, and/or adult neurogenesis.

Skills/Qualifications

 Ideally competence and/or familiarity with: confocal microscopy, handling transgenic mice, stereotactic injections,

cell biology, histology, biochemistry, molecular biology techniques, electrophysiology and behaviour assays.

Strong presentation and writing skills, capability of working in a team, and independently, and fluency in English

are primordial skills.

Specific Requirements

 Ph.D. in neurobiology or closely related discipline with <2 years of relevant post-doc experience.
