Offer Description
Project description
Third-cycle subject: Technology and Health
We are looking for a self-motivated person to pursue a PhD (Licentiate) in Cardiovascular robotics in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Health Systems. We conduct research on medical devices and information and communication systems in health technologies. Candidates with biomedical, mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering profiles and research interests in robotics, sensor systems, and cardiovascular physiology are welcome to apply.
The Intelligent Heart Lab aims to establish robotic systems to predict, prevent and cure cardiovascular disease (Link). We aim to improve people´s cardiovascular health based on the ability to measure biosignals and act on hemodynamics. Our research focus is on implantable systems such as artificial hearts which are adaptive to the physiological need of the patient. The department is located close to the Karolinska University Hospital, enabling rapid exchange of ideas with medical doctors and patients.
The licentiate student will explore and optimize advanced methods for automatically tuning numerical cardiovascular models to create patient-specific digital twins, focusing on improving accuracy, computational efficiency, and matching numerical results to clinical patient data. Ultimately, the cardiovascular model will serve as a platform for hybrid testing of cardiovascular devices, such as ventricular assist devices and artificial hearts
Supervision: Serana Dual and Emanuele Perra are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
