OFFER DESCRIPTION
*4 Year CRUK PhD Studentship – September 2018*
_*“Prostate tumours progression and therapeutic resistance”*_
*Skin Cancer & Ageing Research Group – Dr Amaya Viros*
The Skin Cancer and Ageing group studies the mechanisms that drive poor outcome in the elderly population. Skin cancer morbidity and mortality represents a critical current problem in health care. We focus our research on understanding the changes in aged skin that promote skin cancer progression and the biology of aggressive disease that affect the elderly to identify new strategies of adjuvant therapy.
The aim of this project is to investigate the factors in the aged skin and in the tumours that are responsible for poor outcome of elderly patients. The secondary aim is to develop rationales for adjuvant therapy for the elderly, who are at highest risk of disease progression.
Applications are invited from exceptionally high calibre students, graduates or final year undergraduates who have, or are expected to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree and who are highly committed to pursuing a PhD in cancer research.
Studentships are fully funded for 4 years commencing September 2018. Cancer Research UK sponsorship includes generous stipend, tuition and bench fees. Students trained within our research groups will matriculate from the University of Manchester.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Amaya Viros; Amaya.virosusandizaga@manchester.ac.uk
Interested students can find full group project details, entry criteria and details on how to apply on the CRUK Manchester Institute website;
