Within the EC-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network ‘Quantum-enhanced Sensing via Quantum Control’ (QUSCO) we are searching for a motivated PhD student to work on a selection of the following topics:

 

  • Open and closed loop control of ultra-cold atomic many-body systems [1]
  • Construction of a remote access interface to the complex quantum experiments designed both for expert and layperson access [1]
  • Visualization and gamification of complex quantum control tasks [2]
  • Measurement-based control of quantum systems [3,4]
  • Comparison between the efficiency of specialized quantum control optimization methods and state-of-the-art computer science methods including machine learning [5].

 

The candidate will join the theoretical, experimental, and popular gamification efforts of the Quantum Measurement and Manipulation group [6] at Aarhus University, Denmark, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Jacob Sherson. The research will be conducted in the general framework of the Center for Quantum Optics & Quantum Matter (CQOM) [7] consisting of 10 quantum optics research groups and more than 50 post docs and phd students.

 

Successful candidates are expected to have a high enthusiasm for the above research topics, and to bring a solid theoretical, computational, and/or experimental background in one or more of the following: quantum optics, quantum information, condensed-matter, quantum many-body physics, open quantum systems, machine learning, high-performance computing, optimization and software architecture techniques in computer science.

Advanced programming skills in C++, Unity, and/or Labview are positively evaluated.

 

Since the position is associated to a Marie-Curie ITN, due to EU regulations, the candidate must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the starting date. The candidate should have a Master's degree in either quantum physics or computer science or be within one year of completing it. In the latter case, there is the possibility to be accepted for the PhD programme early and acquire the Master's degree as a part of the PhD study.

 

The starting date is as soon as possible within the next few months.

Benefits
