Veterinarian with emphasis on bacteriology - Institute for Experimental Pathology, University of Iceland at Keldur

The Institute for Experimental Pathology seeks applicants for the full-time position of a veterinarian.

The selected candidate will be working in the department of bacteriology and take part in the tasks of Keldur concerning diagnosis of animal diseases, development and improvement of basic and applied research projects, preparedness and contingency and other projects related to animal diseases. The Institute at Keldur is a National reference laboratory for several infectious agents including Campylobacter and antimicrobial resistance, as reflected by the department‘s work.

Work tasks

  • Supervising the daily operation of the department of bacteriology at the Institute, including
    • bacteriological analysis
    • research into antimicrobial resistance
    • production of vaccines against bacterial diseases in sheep
  • Research and diagnostic services for the benefit of animal health control, and disease contingency for livestock and other animals, in collaboration with the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and practising veterinarians
  • Development and improvement of diagnostic methods
  • Consultation
  • National and international cooperation
  • Supervision of student projects

Qualification requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
  • Knowledge and experience in diagnostics and bacteriology
  • Experience in management and participation in research projects is desirable.
  • Collaboration aptitude, initiative and clinical experience are desirable assets

Salaries will be in accordance with the current collective wage and salary agreement between Associations of State Employees and the Minister of Finance.
