Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the Charles and Ethel Barr Chair of Cancer Research.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a Chair in Cancer Research and is expected to play a major scientific leadership role as scientific co-Director of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Edinburgh Centre, within the MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM). The successful applicant will be an outstanding cancer research scientist, with a proven track record of attracting substantial research funding and of making major contributions to their field. The appointee will complement, and enhance, the considerable existing cancer biology/genetics strengths in Edinburgh, including (but not restricted to) the following areas: cancer genetics or genomics, cancer data science, stem cells and the cancer niche, signal transduction, biological mechanisms, cancer modelling, cancer drug discovery, lifestyle, risk and prevention, early diagnosis and stratification for prevention and therapy.

The scientist we seek will work in the translational, multidisciplinary environment within the CRUK Edinburgh Centre and IGMM, which comprises geneticists, biologists, chemists, physicists, computational scientists, bio-medical/health informaticians, engineers and clinicians. The successful applicant will be lead an internationally recognised programme of basic/translational cancer research and will likely have experience in applying cutting edge cancer model systems, genome/proteome technologies and/or data science to inform and understand disease pathogenesis, with a view to enhancing early detection, making precise molecular diagnoses and/or stratifying patients for therapy – in line with CRUK strategic priorities.
