The investigation program aims at doing research in both archaeology and the history of Greek and Roman art, with particular reference to the archaeology of Cyrene, the Cyrenaica and the Greek colonies around the Mediterranean Sea. Specifically, the project will focus on the urban planning and architecture of Cyrene, from its foundation to the Late Antiquity. Particular attention will be devoted to public areas and sanctuaries, through the examination of the structural components of buildings, in close interaction with the field of restoration. Furthermore, material culture will be examined, especially the archaeological finds of the first decades in the life of the Greek colonies around the Mediterranean Sea, in order to evaluate the relationship between the Greeks and the local populations. The research project will also include the direction of excavation campaigns in both national and international sites through an expected multidisciplinary team-approach.
