Position: Manager of the PTP HT automated phenotypic platform
PTP srl, an innovative SME managing the Lodi Science Park (Italy), is looking for a post-doctoral research associate to develop a creative business idea into a concrete innovation with the support of the Horizon2020 SME Innovation Associate programme (INNOSUP-02-2016 call). The recruited research associate will contribute to the development and running of a unique "from field to high-throughput phenotyping pipeline", which will allow to rapidly assess multiple traits of crop and plants.
The role of the Research Associate will include:
1) development and setting up of an automated phenotyping platform;
2) design and management of screening tests on different crop plants to assess the performances of novel agrochemicals and active molecules;
3) image processing and analysis, data extraction by using high-throughput phenotyping software and bioinformatic tools.
Salary will be commensurated and competitive with qualifications and experience of the applicant.
The research associate will work in a multidisciplinary team of scientist and business experts, including plant geneticists, molecular biologists, plant and industrial biotechnologists, bioinformaticians and computational biologists, business developers and grant managers.
At the time of recruitment, the applicant must have not resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last three years in Italy.
The screening and selection process will take place in subsequent steps: I) Reviewing applications: the applications received will be screened for meeting the basic criteria as given in the job offer and appropriately shortlisted for the subsequent evaluation steps (remote and face to face interviews). Applications will be measured against preliminary evaluation criteria: titles (PhD in agronomy/crop science/plant biology/crop production/ plant physiology; additional titles are a plus); postdoctoral experiences in the relevant fields (field trial management and use of field precision phenotyping tools, including software/app for data collection; data and statistical analysis, background in genetics, genomics and plant breeding); compliance with the transnational mobility rule. Each application will be evaluated by assigning a score to each criteria and 10 candidates with the highest scores will be selected and invited to the subsequent selection phase. Three applicants will be put on a reserve list in case some of the short-listed candidates are unavailable. II) Remote interviews: the ten shortlisted candidates will be invited to a remote interview (by phone or Skype) with a restricted panel including 2-3 PTP Research Managers/Principal Investigators. The candidates will be interviewed and measured against a set of personal traits, transferable and knowledge-based skills. Personal traits and transferable skills include: motivation, autonomy, flexibility, teamwork, problem-solving, planning, communication and interpersonal skills; knowledge-based skills (see above), computer skills, social media skills, languages (excellent written and spoken English is required), business skills. Each candidate will be evaluated by assigning a score to each criteria and 3 candidates with the highest scores will be selected and invited to the subsequent selection phase. III) Face to face interviews: the three short-listed candidates will be invited to a face to face interview with a larger panel including: PTP Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Business Incubator Manager, Grant Office Manager, 2 Research Managers/Principal Investigators. The evaluation will be made on the same criteria described for the remote interview and scores will be fine-tuned thanks to the direct interactions with the candidate.

Background in genetics, genomics and plant breeding is desirable, as well as experience in mechanical engineering and environmental engineering.
Further requirements will be the capability to work autonomously and to independently plan and manage a project, including its budget; excellent problem solving skills, networking capabilities, strong organisational skills.
