  • Full time, 4 years fixed term, Located on the Darlington Campus at the School of Biomedical Engineering
  • Conduct research related to electronic skins for remote biodianostics and soft robotics
  • Base Salary $118,390 - $140,586 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2019 to facilitate collaborative research excellence in the field of biomedical engineering. Through our academic staff and students, our research will aim to serve the public as a thought-leader and provide innovative technology for industry, hospitals, governments and the wider community.

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Cell/Tissue Integrated biosensors to join the team and contribute to innovative research within the School.

As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow- Cell/Tissue Integrated biosensors you will be responsible for conducting research related to electronic skins for remote biodianostics and soft robotics. This position involves the design/synthesis of novel soft biosensors, cell/tissue cultures, PCB assembly, development of data acquisition and signal processing.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • the conduct of research under limited supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently and the production or contribution to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research
  • soft biosensors using nanomaterials
  • electronics design of a wearable/bio-integrated devices, with establishment of Bluetooth communication, PCB design and assembly
  • optimising data acquisition, storage, transfer and processing
  • attendance at meetings associated with research or the work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected and/or at departmental, school and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees
  • involvement in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise
  • development of a limited amount of research-related material for teaching or other purposes with appropriate guidance from other staff
  • occasional contributions to teaching in relation to their research project(s)
  • advice within the field of the staff member's research to postgraduate students.

About you

  • a post doctoral qualification in bioengineering, with a research background in cell/tissue engineering and its interface with bioelectronic sensors.
  • research experience in flexible bioelectronic devices is highly preferred
  • a strong background in the highly interdisciplinary field of biosensors and bioelectronics
  • strong knowledge and skills for cell and tissue culture
  • a strong knowledge in wearable medical devices, biosensors and mobile-health systems
  • demonstrated analytical and manuscript preparation skills; including a track record of refereed research publications and patents
  • ability to solve complex problems by using discretion, innovation and the exercise diagnostic skills and/or expertise
  • well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines.
