Offer Description
The Administration Board of the Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto Francisco Gentil, EPE (IPO Porto) opens a call for hiring 1 technician for researcher activity with a Master degree, according to the Applicable Regulation, under unfixed-term contract for up to 12 months, funded through the project TRANSCAN3/0001/2021 “UCIPredict”.The position will be integrated at the Cancer Biology and Epigenetics group- LAB 3 of Centro de Investigação do IPO Porto.
1. Profile of the candidate:
Any national, foreign, and stateless candidate(s) that hold the following requirements can apply:
Obligatory:
- MSc in Oncology or Biomedical/Life Sciences/Cancer Biology or similar fields up to 5 years;
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or similar fields up to 8 years;
- Documented expertise in the area of Epigenetics and Cancer Biology and immuno-oncology, in particularly in urological cancers;
- Previous experience in Human samples handling and processing (blood and urine);
- Expertise in nucleic acids isolation from human samples and methylation-based techniques (bisulfite conversion, methylation-specific quantitative PCR);
- Former experience in microRNAs isolation from human samples and detection techniques;
- Motivation to work in an interactive and collaborative environment;
- Organized, able to prioritize and accomplish deadlines;
- Driven to fulfil goals and reach objectives;
- English proficiency (oral and written).
Preferential:
- Demonstrated expertise in several molecular biology methods, including immunohistochemistry, protein extraction, Western Blot, and in vitro models;
Note: In the event the MSc degree was awarded by a foreigner higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law nr 66/2018, of 18th August, and all formalities established there must be fulfilled by applications deadline.
2. Regulation:
- Portuguese Labor Law, approved by Law nr 7/2009, of 12th February in its current writing.
3. Members of the Jury:
The jury is composed by: Prof. Carmen Jerónimo (who chairs); Prof. Rui Henrique, MD, PhD; Dr. Margareta Correia, PhD;
Substitute elements: Dr. Vera Miranda-Gonçalves, PhD and Dr. João Lobo, MD, PhD
4. Start Date and workplace:
The contract is expected to start as soon as possible and for (12) twelve months or until the expected execution date of the project. The activities will be developed mainly at IPO-Porto.
5. Monthly remuneration:
Gross monthly remuneration is 1.385,35€.
6. Application process:

7. Evaluation criteria:
The admitted applications will be evaluated considering the candidates' academic or professional qualifications, professional career, relevance of the experience and training and the type of duties carried out in accordance with the profile described above.
The jury will analyze the application documents according to following criteria:
A. Curriculum evaluation (60%):
1. Research experience in the areas and methods indicated above (40%).
2. Research projects in which the candidate was involved (10%);
3. Scientific publications (published or submitted) and respective impact factor (10%);
B. Motivation letter (40%):
1. Interest and motivation in the research areas relevant to the position (25%);
2. Fluency in English (5%);
3. Experience in scientific writing (10%).
After evaluation of all admitted applications, the jury will write a meeting minute with all process of recruitment, evaluation, and selection, including an ordered list of approved candidates and the final decision of the jury. The final decision of the jury shall be validated by the Head of the Institution, who is also in charge of deciding about the hiring.
8. Results:
Both admitted and excluded candidates list and final classification list shall be posted at IPO Porto and all candidates will be notified by email.
9. Preliminary hearing and final decision deadline:
Pursuant to article 121 of the Administrative Procedure Code, after notified, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.
