CIRCE is currently looking for a Power Electronic PhD expert to join, complement and strengthen the team.

This expert must have more than 5 years of experience in the R+D+I sector, participating and leading private and public projects, related to power electronics for grid integration, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and grid impact, for both the medium and the low voltage grid.

The position requires someone capable of designing power converters including the topology, semiconductor, and other components selection, taking into account thermal management and control algorithms. This person should handle and lead the embedded software implementation, the hardware design and the laboratory tests.

The candidate will join the CIRCE Electronic Systems Group, which has worked in more than 30 projects related to electrical sustainable mobility (wireless and conductive electric vehicle charging systems), renewable energy grid integration, grid support storage systems, power quality improvement systems and MV grid automation. Some relevant projects are:

Sic Technology

  • BUILDHEAT project: CIRCE has design and manufacture a 1 kW MCI “Multi Inverter Control” implementing SiC technology. (http://www.buildheat.eu )


MV grid Automation:

  • MAIGE project: CIRCE design and manufacture a fault locator for MV distribution grid.

Specific Requirements

Technical knowledge:

  • Embedded systems implementation from different manufacturers such as Texas instruments, Microchip, STM, etc.
  • Power electronic and microelectronic simulation (PSPICE, MATLAB).
  • Digital signal processing algorithm implementation (DFT, Hilbert, Wavelets, FIR and IIR filters, etc.) in MATLAB and in embedded systems.
  • Power converter control techniques (DQ, αβ coordinates, time domain control algorithm).

It will be considered a plus the following technical knowledge:

  • Digital signal processing algorithm implementation (DFT, Hilbert, Wavelets, FIR and IIR filters, etc.) in MATLAB and in embedded systems.
  • Hands on development and troubleshooting of PE devices.
  • Familiarity with debugging and testing equipment, tools and methodologies.
  • Experience on CE requirements fulfillment and test procedure.

Applications Areas:

  • Power Electronic applied to MV grid automation, smart grids, self-healing devices, etc.
  • Power Electronic systems for grid integration: Smart energy grids, energy storage, more efficient buildings (with higher integration of renewables on-site), electric vehicles as a demand-response instrument and potential provider of ancillary services for the grid and buildings.
  • Power electronics as enabler technologies of batteries and other storage systems in order to increase the efficiency of power generation with higher flexibility and resilience.
