Thematic Areas

Integrative Biosystems - The unique feature of Integrative Biosystems is that it spans the life and biomedical sciences whilst being unified by an underpinning framework based on integration across disciplines and scales.

Cancer - Cancer research at CU covers the full spectrum of pre-clinical, translational and clinical research. Areas of expertise covered include: tumour and environment; drug discovery, development and delivery; personalised cancer genetics and clinical trials.

Immunology, infection and inflammation - Research within the immunology, infection and inflammation theme (3Is) ranges from fundamental research, prototype discovery and design, pre-clinical testing and early clinical trials through to technology evaluation, services research and delivery.

Mind, brain and neuroscience - We aim to implement a unique ‘synapse to society’ translational pipeline, utilising our world leading research infrastructure, including the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre, MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics and Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute.

Population health - Promoting health and well-being by seeking to tackle the major public health issues within society today, by better understanding the biological, environmental and social causes of disease, including the determinants of health risk behaviours and designing, developing and testing services and interventions to improve population health and healthcare quality.
