Offer Description
The Project Manager will provide support for a set of interdisciplinary research projects being implemented by Profs. Mireia Artigot and John Palmer, related to: (i) privacy, online consumer contracts, consumer behavior, machine learning, artificial intelligence, transparency, explainability and accountability of algorithmic decisions and related fields involving the use of AI and ADM by public and private agents in digital environments, (ii) mosquitoes and mosquito-borne disease in the context of climate change, and (iii) human mobility, inequality, and health from the perspectives of multiple disciplines, including sociodemography, ecology, and law.
These projects span the departments of law and political and social sciences and deal with topics that have been interconnected through several UPF initiatives on sustainability and planetary wellbeing. We are looking for someone who is highly competent in executing project management tasks across these disciplines and who can efficiently interact with the large international teams implementing these projects.
- Management of JuLIA project – budget, logistics, reporting, and organization of project activities. Specifically:
- Administrative management and financial management of the research project.
- File all the reporting with the European Commission.
- Budget control and management.
- Communication and economic transfer of funds with partners.
- Support to JuLIA principal investigator on the organization and management of the project events and being the communication hub with the European Commission and the project partners.
- Participation in the different activities of the research project (may require travelling) and support in their design and implementation.
- Organization of events and full support to partner universities in their participation in the project.
- Regular communication with partners, participants to the project events and with the European Commission.
- Participation in the research activities conducted within the JuLIA project.
- Support in the research activities, preparation of training and workshop materials within the JuLIA Project at the Department of Law - Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
- Oversightoftheevolutionanddevelopmentoftheprojectbyallthepartners.
- Support in the elaboration and presentation of the research results obtained at workshops and conferences within the JuLIA project.
- Management of the projects Protecting consumers in digital platforms PID2021-127258NA-I00 Agencia Estatal de Investigación and AlgorithmLaw - TED2021-131472A-I00 and Artificial Intelligence: a challenge and/or a solution for sustainable consumer markets?
- Administrative management and financial management of the research project.
- File all the reporting with the Spanish Agency of research.
- Budget control and management.
- Support to the principal investigator on the organization and management of the project events.
- Participation in the different activities of the research project.
- Management of the AEI Researcher Consolidation Grant “Climate Change and Human Mobility Project” (CNS2022-135646)
- Management of the H2020 projects “Human-Mosquito Interaction Project” (ERC-StG-853271) and “Versatile Emerging infectious disease Observatory” (GA: 874735) and of the Horizon Europe projects “Infectious Disease decision-support tools and Alert systems to build climate Resilience to emerging health Threats” (GA: 101057554), “Eco-Epidemiological Intelligence for early Warning and response to mosquito-borne disease risk in Endemic and Emergence settings” (GA: 101086640) and “Translating Science into Policy: A Multisectoral Approach to Adaptation and Mitigation of Adverse Effects of Vector-Borne Diseases, Environmental Pollution and Climate Change on Planetary Health” (GA: 101136652).
- Support in the elaboration and presentation of the research results obtained at workshops and conferences within the research projects. Support in the organization of research activities, projects and research outputs of the PI.
- Whenever possible and requested by the UPF Research Service:
- Conduct administrative and financial monitoring of other European projects of the University from their negotiation with the financing entity to their final justification.
- Prepare documentation for project audits and respond to auditors' documental requirements.
- Advise and respond to inquiries and support teaching and research staff on the economic and administrative management of public and private competitive calls.
- Identify management problems and difficulties in competitive calls (specific training, necessary support, etc.) within their scope of his/her work.
- Design and coordinate actions with managers and research leaders of the research groups to take advantage of synergies and optimize resources.
- Any other task assigned within the field of Project Manager’s technical skill.
- Management of any other future research and innovation project in which any of the two Principal Investigators are involved.

Salary (gross) 43.912,18 euros/year
Job Location: Barcelona, Spain.
Type of Contract – Contract for scientific and technical activities. Indefinite according to the provisions of article 23 bis of the Llei 14/2011, del 1 de juny, de la ciència, la tecnologia i la de juninnovació. (PSR 1 group level i).Full time (35h/w), 1-year renewable up to the expected finalization date of the JuLIA project (31 January 2026).
Note: The intended starting date of the contract is as soon as possible.

- Experience with project management involving large European and Spanish grants.
