UiT The Arctic University of Norway has established «The Arctic MSCA-IF program» to select excellent young researchers planning to submit applications for a Marie Skƚodowska Curie individual fellowship (MSCA-IF) in order to pursue a research career (uit.no/afu/arcticmsca). We invite applications from promising young researchers within the field of Theoretical Chemistry. The selected candidate will write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-IF at UiT together with Dr. Kathrin H. Hopmann. This is an opportunity to accelerate your research career while living in the urban research city of Tromsø, uniquely located at the top of the world surrounded by some of Europe’s last pristine wild nature.
This call is one of 37 from pre-selected supervisors at UiT The Arctic University of Norway through the “Arctic MSCA-IF program” (uit.no/afu/arcticmsca/supervisors). Successful postdoc candidates will be invited to Tromsø (travel and accommodation expenses covered) for a two-day MSCA-IF symposium on May 3-4 2017. At this event, the candidates will present their past research achievements, discuss future plans with their potential supervisor and learn how to write a successful MSCA-IF application. Together with the supervisor, the selected candidates will start developing their MSCA-IF application towards the MSCA-IF deadline of September 14th 2017.
In this call we search for talented, young researchers within the field of Theoretical Chemistry as presented by Dr. Hopmann:
Increasing atmospheric CO2 is a major concern due to its link to climate changes. On the other hand, CO2 is an abundant, relatively non-toxic and cheap feedstock of carbon and the ultimate carbon source for a CO2-neutral economy. As of today, efficient recycling of CO2 into high-value products like fuels (e. g. methanol, formic acid) or fine chemicals (e.g. organic carbonates, carboxylic acids) is limited by the lack of efficient catalysts.
The research team led by Dr. Kathrin H. Hopmann (theoretical chemistry) and Dr. Annette Bayer (organometallic/organic chemistry) aims to develop novel metal-based catalysts for transformations of CO2 (see also site.uit.no/choco). To reach this goal, the team employs a combination of computational and experimental approaches. The prospective candidate will work on computational studies of metal-based catalysts, with the goal to obtain a detailed understanding of factors relevant for catalyst performance. The insights obtained will be employed to design novel catalysts. Relevant candidates for the position should have a background in computational chemistry, preferably with experience in organometallic applications.

The applicant must be an «Experienced Researcher»; he/she shall, by the time of the deadline (September 14th 2017), be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. The ER can be of any nationality and shall not have spent more than 12 months in Norway in the 3 years immediately prior to September 14th 2017.
