OFFER DESCRIPTION

The objective is

to investigate the process by which Koine Greek was adopted as the common

vehicle for formal writing in northern Greece superseding the ancient Greek

dialects and, eventually, Thracian and Illyrian. The job consists of:

research results for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals;

Presenting

papers at (international) conferences;

Skills/Qualifications

Some
teaching in the second year of the appointment;
·        
Organizing
and participating in reading and discussions groups, seminars, workshops within
the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and in other activities designed for the
social dissemination of the results of the research project
·        
Organizing
and participating in the elaboration of the periodic and final reports on the
research project according to the official requirements and guidelines.

 Main Research Field: Language
contacts (Ancient Greek, Thracian, Illyrian) and dialects levelling (northwestern
Doric dialects and Koine) in ancient northern Greece.
The Research Project on “Language
Contacts and Dialect Levelling in Ancient Northern Greece” aims at determining
the patterns of language contacts, dialectal convergence and dialect levelling
that led to the adoption of the koine Greek as the sole common vehicle for
formal writing and eventually to the death of the northern Ancient Greek
dialects at least for written purposes.
