Research activity at European University Cyprus covers both Basic and Applied research, as well as the Arts. The University places strong emphasis on linking teaching with research and carrying out public outreach activities, aiming at increasing the interest of young people and the wider public in scientific endeavors. The research activity of the university as measured by its success in securing external research funding and authoring quality journal publications increased significantly in the last decade.

EUC has an extensive portfolio of research and innovation projects, funded by the European Commission (i.e. Horizon Europe, Horizon2020, Erasmus+, Directorates General), the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation, the Max Planck Institute, European Space Agency, governmental bodies and private organizations. Research activity is primarily carried out by a number of research centers, laboratories, and other kinds of specialized settings such as clinics and innovation centers.

The EUC was rated by QS World University Rankings, which ranks many of the most prestigious universities in the United States, Canada and Europe, as five-star Institutions for their overall performance. European University has received five stars for performance in the areas of teaching, employability, internationalization, online learning, inclusiveness and the competitiveness and strength of the MD Medicine program. The EUC is ranked among the world’s top 201+ universities in the 2021Times Higher Education Impact Rankings with regard to three key sectors: Innovation, Industry and Infrastructure; Actions on Climate Change and Decent Work & Economic Growth.

ΕUC is accredited with the “Great Place to Work” Certification (for which employees themselves are actively engaged in ‘judging’ their working experience). More importantly, in September 2017, EUC was awarded the “HRS4R – Human Resources Strategy for Researchers” accreditation by the European Commission, which was renewed in 2022, hence reflecting EUC's continuing commitment to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. During 2022, EUC also became a EURAXESS Center.
